YOUTH BASKETBALL FESTIVAL

Tournament Rules and Guidelines

Games will be governed by current IAABO playing rules with the following exceptions:

 Grades 5 & 6

 1)     Tournament teams must consist of players currently in the 5th or 6th grade.  Coaches are responsible for the integrity of their rosters.  If a team has both 5th and 6th grade players, they must play at the 6th grade level.

 2)     Games will be played on 10’ baskets with a 28.5” size basketball.

 3)     Teams must play half-court man-to-man defense in the 1st half.  Teams may play ANY type of defense in the 2nd half.  A team will not be permitted to apply full court pressure if the lead is 15 points or more.

 4)     Teams receiving repeated warnings for violating the man-to-man defense rule in the 1st half will be assessed a technical foul.

 5)     Games will consist of four 7-minute periods with 3-minute overtime periods if necessary.

 6)     The Parks and Recreation Department will supply officials and scorers.

 Grades 7 & 8

1)     Tournament teams must consist of players currently in the 7th or 8th grade.  For those communities where more than one junior high/middle school exists, teams cannot combine to form one tournament team—all players must attend the same junior high/middle school.  Coaches are responsible for the integrity of their rosters.

2)     Games will be played on 10’ baskets with a regulation size basketball (28.5” for girls).

3)     Teams may play ANY type of defense; however, defense is restricted to the frontcourt in the 1st half.  A team will not be permitted to apply full court pressure if the lead is 20 points or more.

4)     Games will consist of four 7-minute periods with 3-minute overtime periods if necessary.

5)      The Parks and Recreation Department will supply officials and scorers.
