Marriage License Information

Residents of the state intending to be joined in marriage shall record the notice of their intentions in the Office of the City Clerk of the municipality in which they reside.  If only one of the parties resides in the State, the parties shall file their intention in the office of the clerk of the municipality in which the resident resides.

The intentions (or worksheet) takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.  The information needed to complete the worksheet are the names, residence, place of birth, date of birth of the bride and groom, and the names and place of birth of their parents.  If either the bride or groom has been married previously, they need to bring a certified copy of the document that dissolved the former marriage.  After the couple has completed the application, they must both sign in the presence of the Clerk.  The couple must pay the license fee of $30 (payable to the clerk in the municipality where they reside), which is valid for 90 days.
