 CATALYST REUNION was held on January 16 in the Waterville City Council of Chambers. About 50 people attended, both from Sustain Mid Maine and the public. Check out the Sentinel article about the meeting.

 Cosmetics on Trial: Sponsored by the Maine Women's Policy Center. March 31 at Barrels Community Market in Waterville. Area young women tested for toxins in various everyday products.

EVENTS AT COLBY COLLEGE:

Flow: For the Love of Water: March 29. This movie confronts the disturbing reality that water, a crucial resource, is dwindling, and GREED may be the cause.

Colloqium: February 16. Joel Tickner '89 is assistant professor in the Department of Community Health and Sustainability at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he is also a principal investigator at the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production. His training is in toxic chemicals policy, epidemology, risk assesment, and pollution prevention. Hehas served as an advisor and researcher for several government agencies, international agencies, non-profit environmental groups and trade union in the U.S. and abroad. 

Toxis Policy in Maine: How Maine Citizens are Making a Difference: February 24. Matt Prindiville, toxics project director at Natural Resources Council of Maine, has worked in community organizing and issue advocacy for non-profit organizations and political campaigns. His professional background includes work to phase out the use of unnecessary, dangerous chemicals in commerce, and promote product stewardship and sustainable design for a green economy. Arrive at 11:30AM for lunch with the speaker.

QUARRY RD. SKI TRAIL GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION: Held on Saturday, February 6 from 10-3PM. Offered a variety of activities including lessons from Central Maine Ski Club, biking demonstrations from CeMeNEMBA, hands-on lasser biathlon demonstrations, and more.

PROTECTING THE NATURE OF MAINE: A documentary of interest which highlights the 50 years of work by the Natural Resources Council of Maine. Will be shown on public television on Saturday February 6 at 11AM; Sunday February 7 at 1:30PM; Sunday February 28 at 10:30AM

UNITY COLLEGE CAREER FAIR: The career fair will be held at Unity College on February 10 from 10-2 PM in the gym. For more information contact ncollins@unity.edu 

A CHEMICAL REACTION: THE STORY OF A TRUE GREEN REVOLUTION: This film was shown at the Railroad Square Cinema on January 10 at 12:30PM. This documentary tells the story of one woman's fight to eliminate toxic chemicals. A great deal of the footage is shot in Maine, and it is narrated by Paul Tukey, a local based activist. Admission will be charged.

NATURAL RESOURCES COUNCIL OF MAINE PROGRAM: TWO MILLION CLEAN ENERGY JOBS NOW was held at Barrels Community Market in Waterville on November 19. For more information, check the Education Team page.

SHOP LOCALLY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON was held at Barrels Community Market in Waterville on December 2. The public was invited to attend the program about the benefits of shopping in downtown Waterville.

THE STORY OF STUFF was held at Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville on November 14. The public was invited to attend a showing of the 20 min. animated film about the downside of consumption.
