Case #1:
- 1500 square feet
- Cape style home built in 1950
- Well maintained but little or no additional insulation
- Walls are 2 X 4 construction
- Heated by oil hot water with one zone
- New boiler installed in 1972
- Average oil use is 900 gal per year
- During the winter icicles form and minor leaks are experienced
- Owner complains of parts of home are too hot while the rest is cold
- The floor is cold on the first floor
- Basement is concrete block but is generally dry and cool.
Action: Energy audit helped to identify those areas that could be improved and the cost for doing the remedial work.

- 150 year old Farm house
- Stone foundation
- Primary heat is oil hot water
- During the winter, frozen pipes happen on a regular basis
- Oil usage is high
- Water freely runs down the walls when it rains
- Homeowner has blown in insulation in the attic but still experiencing cold
- Boiler is 15 years old and also supplies domestic hot water for the home
- Boiler runs year around
- Windows are old but in reasonably good conditions with storm window.
Action: A energy audit is recommended to determine what else can be done to improve the energy efficiency of the home.

- Built as an energy efficient home but the homeowner is suspicious that the home is not performing as well as it should be
Action:After having an energy consultation, an audit was not recommended but specific actions were recommended. Such as insulating the attic access door, insulting exterior electrical boxes modifying the domestic hot water source.
