Pleasant Street Area Water Main Improvements Project

The Kennebec Water District plans to begin this project in April 2024, weather permitting. The project will be replacing existing water mains, fire hydrants, and all service lines on Pleasant Street, Pleasant Place, Pleasant Courts, and Center Street between Pleasant Street and Elm Street. Estimated project timeline: 28-32 weeks. During this time, they will have posted detour routes which can be found in the traffic control plan.

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7th, Pleasant Street in Waterville from Park Street to North Street will be closed to northbound traffic. Northbound traffic on Pleasant Street will be detoured to Elm Street via Park Street. Southbound traffic on Pleasant Street will be allowed from North Street to Western Avenue as usual. 

Center Street, Pleasant Place and Pleasant Court will be closed to local traffic only. Non-residents and those not accessing a business are asked to avoid traveling on these streets. 

These traffic modifications are anticipated to be in place for four to six weeks. 

Pleasant Street from Main Street to North Street is anticipated to be reopened to traffic starting Wednesday, May 8th. If you have any questions please call us at (207) 872-2763.

Pleasant Street Road Closure- Starting on Wednesday, April 17th, Pleasant Street from Main Street to North Street will be closed to all traffic while the water main on this portion of Pleasant Street is replaced. Traffic will be detoured via Main Street and North Street. Access to Kennebec Savings Bank and Mobile Mart will be from the businesses’ North Street driveways. The sidewalk on the east side of the street (Kennebec Savings Bank side) will be closed to facilitate construction. The sidewalk on the west side of the street (Mobile Mart side) will remain open for pedestrians. This road closure is expected to be in place for approximately three weeks. On Tuesday, April 16th, Pleasant Street in Waterville will be closed from North Street to Gilman Street. A detour will be set up to direct traffic to North Street and Gilman Street via Middle Street. Motorists who need to access a residence on Pleasant Street between North Street and Gilman Street will be able to do so from Gilman Street or Center Street. Motorists who need to access Pleasant Place are asked to do so from Center Street. This road closure is required for installation of a new water main across the full width of Pleasant Street.
